Given as Robert Drewell's Beer & Porter House
1836 & 1843.
See BOARD.
Note:
In 1856 Melville lists two houses named the ROSE TAVERN, one at Palace Street with
licensee Robert Ram and the other at Palace Plain with Benjamin Fearnside, who is also
named at the ROSE in 1861.
In 1858 Robert Ramm is named at the SADDLERS
ARMS, but in 1859 Rogers gives Mr Ramm back at the ROSE TAVERN.
The HORSE
SHOES is given in the Licence Register as previously the
SADDLERS ARMS.
However both the SADDLERS ARMS and the
HORSE SHOES appear as separate entries in early
directories.
It seems that the two houses merged c1870.
(SADDLERS ARMS given to 14th October 1870)
