On Thursday 19th July 1821, in celebration of the
Coronation of King George IV, two sheep were roasted, which, with 1200
cakes and eight barrels of Old Stingo, were given to the poor. All were
delighted and nothing but smiling countenances were seen.

It was reported 30th January 1897, that the
Temperance Hall, built "rather more than 20 years ago", lately known as
the Town Hall, had been purchased by the Shipdham Lodge of Oddfellows.
A special meeting of the Lodge had been held on Saturday 23rd January,
at the White Horse, after which it removed to its new quarters. On
Tuesday 26tyh January the outdoor relief to the poor was given from the
Hall, rather than at the Dog Inn, where it had been given for the past
40 years. |
