The population of Stiffkey in April 1909 was given as
429. At the time 3 public houses were operating. The Red Lion was seen to be the most inconvenient since it was in a narrow and dangerous part of the road. It was recommended for closure, "irrespective of ownership, but in consideration of the best accommodation and convenience of the general public". The same recommendation was made Monday 7th February 1910. Ironically this was the only house to survive. |
