The earliest known harvest was commenced Friday 21st July 1826 and
completed Wednesday 9th August 1826. The reaping was carried out by four old men
whose united ages were more than 300. Jerry Smoker was aged 85 and had assisted
70 harvests. The old lads, though two eyes the worse, shewed at their haukey
that their tongues and mettle were not much abated.
