E. T. Smith & Co. advised their Friends, Nobility and Gentry of
the City and Neighbourhood, 6th June 1868, that they had opened
Refreshment Rooms, and intended to carry on the business of
Provision Merchants and Poulterers, &c. They would supply
articles of the most genuine description, including Ales on
Draught and in Bottles.
First (fully) licensed 1870.
At the licensing sessions held Tuesday 23rd August 1870, Edward
Smith asked to be allowed to sell spirits in addition to the
beverages he already dispensed. He was in the habit of supplying
wedding breakfasts and supper parties and it would be a great
convenience to him to be able to furnish the entertainments
complete. Granted.
Recorded in S&P documents as a public house, sold 1922.
Licence surrendered 10.10.1922 when provisional removal to the
BEEHIVE (Leopold Road)
was granted, also using the licences of the
BIRD IN HAND
and the
BEEHIVE, St Martin at
Palace.
