The opening dinner of Mr. John Abel was held on Friday 5th October 1843.
Upwards of 100 of the yeomanry of the county and respectable tradesmen enjoyed an exceedingly good dinner. The following evening, more than 100 of Mr. Abel's friends sat down to supper.

William Abel, son of John, was married to the daughter of Mr. William Kemp, licensee of the TUNS, Unthank Road. In August 1864 Mr. Abel was the plaintiff and Mr. Kemp the defendant in what was described as a misunderstanding between near relatives.

Not found after 1864. (Simpson's Norwich directory)
