The Scotch Ale Brewery of St. Benedict's, owned by Archibald Kidd announced December 1827 that brewing of his Superior Strong Ale had commenced for the Season.
The Ale being Brewed on the Edinburgh System, from the Very Best Malt and Hops, and was confidently recommended to Private Families and Dealers either for Draught or Bottling.
Private Families would be provided with the above and Table Ale, in quantities not less than 4½ Gallons.

Malt and Hops to be supplied by Retail.

 
     
  All the Moveable Plant, Horses, Carts Dray, Harness, Etc of the St. Benedict's Brewery were to be Sold by Auction, Thursday, 9th December 1830.
Two working squares containing 32 barrels each, two small mash tubs, seven coolers, about 90 barrels, 50 half-barrels and 40 small casks were among the other items.
 
     
  For Sale by Auction Thursday, 15th June, 1837.
All the excellent Brewing utensils, Horses, carts, two capital Working Squares each containing 30 barrels, about 80 Barrel Casks in Lots, Half-barrels, sundry small Casks, Etc.....
 
     
  In May 1838 Archibald Kidd of the St. Benedict's Brewery advised that he was brewing in his Old Premises situated at the St. Benedict's Gates, at the back of the FOUNTAIN INN.

Table Ale   1s per gallon
Strong draught   1s 6d per gallon
Strong bottled
  1s 6d per gallon
 
  Sent out in 4½ Gallons

  The St. Benedict's Brewery was offered For Sale by Auction, Wednesday and Thursday, 4th and 5th November 1840.
The brewery equipment included three nearly new Coppers, made by Waite, holding respectively 17, 12 and 3 barrels, 31, 29, and 15 barrel working tuns.
There were 26 barrels of stale ale, 36 barrels of stale porter and about 120 barrels and 120 half barrels and 100 smaller sizes, all equal to new.
