Early 1900's Formerly the THREE TUNS. Became officially the THORPE GARDENS 1st January 1879, but seemingly known as that for many years previously. ~ In a sales document dated 8th May 1888 the property was described as :- Ground floor comprising Entrance lobby, Bar, paved with tiles and with bay window and entrance to garden and river, Tap Room, Parlour, Bar Parlour with French Doors to gardens; Kitchen, Pantry, Cellar, Coal House and Wash-house with Pumps. Also Stabling, Kitchen Garden, Large Boat Builders' shops with slips to river and a Nine-pin Ground. Large Pleasure Gardens which have a river frontage of about 280 foot with Quay head, a long terrace at one end; stowage place, Coal Bins next to common staithe, Tool House, Lavatories and 3 W.C.'s. Lease of £100 ~ 1938 advertisement for the house :- `The old inns of Norfolk are famed with good cheer, Especially those that sell S&P beer'. Damaged by enemy action 9th May 1942 and again
